Though it’s quite close to town as the crow flies, it’s more problematic as the car drives. It takes driving several miles of gravel roads to get there, but it’s quite a treat when you do arrive. This is a gated alpine retreat surrounded by National Forest, with the Rito Blanco River running through. Much of the terrain is heavily wooded with Aspen, Doug Fir, Blue Spruce and Ponderosa Pine, though there are also expansive mountain meadows. Square Top is the most commanding of the surrounding mountain peaks.
